The test evaluates skills in reading, writing, speaking, and listening, providing a single overall score that reflects a person’s ability to communicate in English effectively.
The score ranges from 10 to 160, with higher scores reflecting stronger English proficiency.

The Duolingo English Test (DET) subscore provides a more detailed breakdown of a test taker’s English proficiency beyond the overall score. It helps universities and employers understand specific strengths and areas for improvement in different language skills.
The DET includes four subscores, each evaluating a key aspect of language ability:
Literacy: Measures the ability to read and write effectively in English.
