Guide for applying in the summer intake

Below are the step-by-step guide for applying in the summer intake in Germany:

• June – Choose the university and your preferred course. UG, PG and even doctoral courses are available across institutions in Germany during this time.
• July to August– Every university has autonomy in Germany, and this means that admission criteria may vary. Those looking to enrol in undergraduate courses should pass the Feststellungsprufung. Varying standards need to be scrutinized in this case. Those applying for masters courses should have four-year undergraduate degrees while providing scores of tests such as GRE, GMAT, TOEFL, or IELTS.  You should appear for these tests and get everything in order.
• September to November– You should start planning your funds at this time. You will have to prove that you can manage the cost of living and tuition fees for each year. Living costs may vary across numerous German cities. The silver lining here is that education is almost free or completely free at many universities. You can still apply for scholarships if you are eligible.

• December to January– You should start applying to your chosen universities five to six weeks before their deadlines. Applications should be submitted by mid-January for the summer intake, although deadlines may vary across institutions. You will have to provide a list of admission documents like your passport, photograph, academic transcripts, and language proficiency test scores.
• December to January– This is when you should start your study visa application. Processing timelines are usually between three and four weeks on average. Indian students can apply for the Student Applicant or Visum Zur Studienbewerbung visa if they have not received their university acceptance. If they have the acceptance letter, they can apply for Visum Zu Studienzwecken or Student visas. You will have to provide several documents for your visa application, including your passport, letter of invitation, photographs, financial proof, return ticket proof, accommodation proof, itinerary and so on.
• February- This is when you should enrol at your university after getting the acceptance letter. Pay all applicable charges and provide documents that are required. Upon enrollment, you will get your registration certificate, also called the student ID (provisional). You should also arrange for accommodation and other utilities.
• March to April- With everything arranged smoothly, you will have to tick off your travel checklist, pack and book your flight tickets. Take a look at tips and guides for living and studying in Germany as well.
